Next-Gen.Biz: A Summary of WAR

For any avid WAR fan this article will contain nothing new, but it’s a great (a relatively short) summary of Warhammer Online’s boasted features. Why is that useful? Well it’d probably be a good idea to send the link to all your WoW-friends in hopes of converting them.

Who are these NPC’s?

In the recent April Newsletter a few pieces of concept art was included of a number of “famous” NPC’s from the Warhammer universe. It’s all well and good to know their names but for those people who haven’t really ever focused on the tabletop side of things (something I’m guilty of) then you may want to read this article by TenTonhammer.com which gives a bit of background information of the NPC’s feature.

Waaagh! is keeping you busy

image I’m going to claim Syp’s new article is inspired from my Waiting on Warhammer piece just for my own self-satisfaction and egotistical nature, although his article is far more specific. Whilst you might not want to believe it, there are MMO’s out there other than Warhammer Online and Syp goes through a bunch of free ones that he considers disposable as you don’t want to get too attached to them before WAR arrives.

TenTonHammer’s Live Grab Bag & ToK FAQ

image

Once again Ten Ton Hammer delivers some great content for WAR-fanatics (don’t worry, I got some ideas too!) that you should probably check out. For WAR newbies (or just for people trying to refresh their knowledge) you should check out their Tome of Knowledge FAQ. Also, whilst we’re on the subject of why TTH is an evil site provides great content, check out their Live Grab Bag recap which I believe is the same as WAR conference call I previously posted about.

Are you sick with Altitis?

Well Waaagh! may have a solution for you. Syp has written up the Ten Commandments of running an alternative character and if you’re planning to do so it’s an interesting/amusing read.

WAR: A Sleeper hit?

In a recent article by PC Authority they claim that Warhammer Online could be a "sleeper hit" and believe it is "less-than-hyped". Maybe I’m blinded by my fanboyism but I didn’t realize WAR as "less-than-hyped". Maybe it won’t be at GTA4 status any time soon, but certainly it has it’s feet firmly planted in the world of MMO’s.

Dungeons in WAR

image

The amazing fellows over at Jeux Online (France’s best export?) have written up a great overview of the role dungeons will play in Warhammer Online. It has everything you’d want to know like whether dungeons are instance, rumored RvR dungeons and all that other awesome stuff we can’t wait to get involved with.

Zergtastic!

The Greenskin has posted up a feature article on Zergs, which are basically just large mobs. When I first started reading the article (before I knew what “zerging” was) I thought we’d lost our beloved Snafzg to a brain implosion (seems to be common on teh interweb), but alas that is not the case…yet.

Give Snafzg the confidence and self-esteem needed to continue blogging, and read the damn article.

When scenario’s become mini-games…

…now that is a headline that captured my attention.

Keen, the author behind Keen’s Korner (go figure!) on Warhammer Vault has written a piece about his experience with the Age of Conan PvP Weekend that was held recently. He “relates AoC’s Mini-games to WAR’s Scenarios and discusses why he feels there could be a potential problem for Mythic down the road.”

“Mythic needs to avoid the trap that Funcom has obviously fallen into. Funcom made these mini-games feel too much like… mini-games. It’s like having the option of going to the arcade to play pinball or staying at home and playing with your Xbox 360 or PS3 on a 52″ plasma Tv.”
