GameSpot Updates their Hands-On with WAR

Picture 1.png

Yep, once again GameSpot have had more hands-on time with WAR and they’re passing on some of the goodness via their latest article. The article goes over the starting areas of the game and briefly talks about the character creation screen (has that ever been talked about?).

GameSpy Previews Warhammer Onine

GameSpy.com have once again got their hands on Warhammer Online and have played through some of the starting content.

…the early quests in WAR seem to impart a definite sense of “place.” Think about how the early quests in WoW make you feel as if you’re “clocking in” to quest-givers, subsequently running out into the field a few yards to fulfill objectives, and returning to clock out by delivering your quests and collecting rewards. There doesn’t seem to be as much of that in WAR; rather, the early environments seem to be designed around highly-visible events, the consequences of which are evident all around you. In the Dwarf areas, the context is a Greenskin invasion, with the tunneling goblins and squigs and the orc-manned artillery beyond the ramparts.

CVG Previews WAR

Computer and Video Games and have had a little play-time with Warhammer Online and the previewer goes through all the things you’d expect him to go through, but it’s summed up best with the last couple of lines:

So, if you’ve been reticent about PvP combat, or ignoring Warhammer Online because of it, it’s about time you stop doing so and start getting yourself ready - AOR is coming, and it’s going to change absolutely everything.

There you have it. WAR is the best thing ever, nothing will be ever beat it. It’s perfect. Buy the game and visit this site. Seriously. I’m not biased at all.

GameSpot.com Updates

Thanks to Warhammer Geek for pointing out these updates.

GameSpot.com have recently updated their screenshots section with 12 exclusive screenshots, and also written up some RvR/PvP Impressions.

Jeux Online Impressions

JeuxOnline have posted up their impressions, and of course, they’re in French, but using Google Translator you can generally understand what the author is talking about.

However, from what I read nothing amazing is revealed, but the concluding paragraph definitely appears to be positive, which is always a good sign.

NY Comic Con Warhammer Impressions

Home!

People recently got to go hands on with Warhammer Online at Comic Con in New York. Warhammer Vault nicely summed up the important points gained from players impressions:

  • Armor for your mounts
  • Newsletter next week
  • Final High Elf class revealed in newsletter
  • Mainly high end computers in beta right now. Mid to low aren’t invited to beta yet due to lack of slider capabilities on graphics
  • Ability to dye armor at level 10
  • Chaos Chosen and Chaos Zealot Videos from Comic Con

Members over at Warhammer Alliance have written up their full impressions from the event and it’s sounding pretty good, the main issues being focused more on balancing and small(ish) tweaks.

What stood out to me is peoples thoughts about the Disciple of Khaine  class, and their opinion that its damage output is simply not enough to be effective. Once again though, that would surely just require some minor tweaking, so it isn’t much of a concern at this point in the Beta. There were a few people that shared this same concern.

Impressions from Guardian.co.uk

Guardian.co.uk are not the first resource I think of when looking for impressions of upcoming MMORPG’s, but nevertheless they’ve delivered a somewhat short, yet still positive look at the game, although the author seems a little too disappointed at the lack of /dance functionality in the game, and makes few too many comparisons to WoW when summing up the article. Nevertheless, it’s good to see the game getting a bit more mainstream press and the articles sums up fairly well what Warhammer Online plans to achieve.

Also, it’s funny to read through the comments of the article, where there are obviously a few WoW players trying to defend their beloved game, and my favorite comment of them all: “As an ex-Warhammer nerd, if there’s one thing guaranteed to wind me up it’s people complaining that something Warhammer looks too much like Warcraft. They should have sued Blizzard into a pile of burning embers back when they had the chance.” I may not be as forthcoming as the commenter but when Warcraft fans say something like that it does annoy the hell out of me.
