New Project: Warhammer Online Mods, and an update

Yes, I know I’ve really been neglecting this blog, and for that I apologize. Being in my final year of school it’s hard to keep motivated to write a constant stream of articles when I’m being constantly on the receiving end of assignments, homework, etc.

However, I have not given up on Warhammer Gamers, I am merely taking a break from the posting of news, and will be changing the direction of the site (slightly) in the future. Instead of reporting on every little news tid bit, I’ll be focusing on creating video content, and features such as How To’s, strategies, etc.

Announcing Warhammer Online Mods

Okay, this isn’t much of an announcement as I’ve got nothing to show off it really, but nevertheless, I’ve got some neat ideas. Basically I picked up WarhammerOnlineMods.com and I thought it was quite a nice domain name and believed it deserved to be developed. Currently if you go to Warhammer Online Mods you’ll just see a “coming soon” page, but there is also a description of what I want it to be.

As a quick summary, Warhammer Online Mods will be a place for developers to store their creations (add ons, user interfaces, external utilities etc) for free, and also keep gamers up to date with any development progress etc. Basically, the developers will have a free place to store their work, and gamers will have a single place they can go to and get a number of great tools from (at least, that’s the plan).

And remember…

I’m not abandoning Warhammer Gamers, and will still be participating (and promoting) our Warhammer Online Forum, and of course, our awesome Warhammer Online Contest. How I was updating the site before was very unproductive, which is why I’ve been spending my “time off” thinking of content I can create that is useful, within my ability, yet won’t take up my entire day.

White Lion Unveiled

What do you know, the white lion class, remember that beastly looking dude Dave posted about earlier.  Well, it looks as if Gamespot scored an interview with Mythic to clear up a few questions on ‘fore mentioned class and shed some more light onto it.  I’ll give you a brief summary of what we learned (Because i’m nice like this), or you could go and read it at the link i’ll put at the bottom.

To start off, the White Lion class is a melee dps, so don’t think you’ll be able to hide back with a ranged weapon and think you will be effectively using your class.  When you start you get a Lion, as lil’ fury youngling Lion, and you Customize its fur patterns, maybe some markings here and there.  And as you play and level your Lion grows with you (cool huh)  and its fur patterns and markings grow with it.  It has three skill trees into which you may customize your character into.  The path of the hunter, No, you don’t go ranged, sorry.  As the path of the hunter you stride into battle side by side with your lion dishing out multi-target damage and combo’s.  As the path of the Axeman your Lion turns into your tank, he keeps your target busy, as you walk quietly, and carry a big….axe.  As you are expected to flank the target while he’s fussing over this lion at eating his throat.  And finally,  as the path of the  guardian  YOU become the tank, while everyone else runs in to deal damage you mitigate it by using your multiple debuffs (For you new to MMO “debuff” means a n effect upon your character that isn’t beneficial.) to decrease damage and attack speed etc.  And to tie it up the class is described as, and i quote “The white lion is a very attractive career for the player that desires a strong solo experience but also prefers to get in the thick of melee combat. It’s one of those careers that is very “new player” friendly but has a lot of depth and takes a good bit of strategy to master.”‘

WarhammerGamers.com Is Looking For Writers

Have your articles and WAR-related content seen by thousands of people each month!

With school and everything it’s sometimes hard to keep up to date with (and write about) the latest news for Warhammer Online. Because of this I’m hoping I can find a couple of writers to help with the work load.

What the job will entail…

  • Keeping up to date with all WAR news, and writing about stories
  • Including your own thoughts, and some personality (aka, not press release style)

What’s involved in writing a news story?

  • Find the news
  • Write a brief summary, with your own opinion (if applicable)
  • Include a snippet of the content
  • Link to the original source

Random bits…

  • As WarhammerGamers.com is currently ad-free there can be no compensation, but we’ll cover the costs of the writers subscriptions to WAR and maybe compensate them with little bit extra $$$
  • You’ll also be upgraded to Moderator status on the forums, although moderating would not be a requirement, just helpful
  • We’re very flexible. If you want to write about news, then write about news, if you’re interested in interviewing interesting people (related to WAR of course) then do that. If you want to express something WAR-related then we’re a great channel to go through.

Head over to the contact us page to send us an email with any past experience or writing samples (not required, but you’ll be much more impressive).

Don’t forget the forum…

Contest
The news has been slow the last few days (don’t worry, I’ll think up some good think pieces) so what do I do? Shamelessly plug the forums and contest of course!

So if you’re a subscriber to this blog, or are just visiting for the first time visit the Warhammer Online forums. We’re currently running a Mega Warhammer Gamers Competition with 23 prizes up for grabs and it’s real good (I promise).

Whilst the Warhammer Gamers forum is not the biggest it is growing and we’ve got some great members and spam hasn’t been an issue yet. There are also some great features planned for members too.

NY Comic Con ‘08 WAR Presentation

Argh, when is this NY Comic Con stuff going to stop coming in?! Still, Ten Ton Hammer has a great video of a WAR presentation with Hickman, Drescher, and Barnett. As noted by a Warhammer Alliance member Paul Barnett seems to be wearing some sweet WAR jeans (jealous much?).

As you can see…

…the new design has launched and now this blog finally has some personality! I was a little worried when I sent off the design to a coder as I’m always concerned that I rushed it in some way. However, I believe the design looks great in coded form, and will at least be able to get this site through until the launch of WAR.

I’d love to hear you thoughts though! Just leave a comment or head over the contact page.

Quick Announcement

This is just a quick announcement to say that all blog comments are now handled via the forums. To comment you’ll need to be a member, and each comment will count as a regular post would.

I’ve closed down the "Site News & Suggestions" forum, and ALL news will be posted under the "News & Announcements from the blog…" section. I figured this would be a better way to handle comments instead of segregating the community on the blog and forum.

Okay, the plan was to integrate the comments with the blog, but it caused quite annoying issues. I’ve put it back to the way it was, and the current setup will just have to do for now. It’s annoying having the blog and forum community separate but I’ll work on a solution when I’m more awake (9pm where I live).

Blog Semi-Launch

This whole blog idea went from an idea to execution in under 72 hours, so forgive me for it being rough around the edges. Here are a few points:

  • A unique & original design will be here VERY shortly, it’s being coded
  • Our forums are still an integral part of this site - this blog will just make it easier to reach people
  • I’ve been working hard with keeping the blog updated with fresh WAR news, and will continue to do so. I currently have 25 RSS feeds in Google Reader all delivering some form of WAR content as soon as it happens.

And that’s all from this semi-launch of the blog. I still have some work to do, and will try to cause minimum issues whilst doing so. :)
